Nirman is a registered body under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860. It is an organization for education, research, training, social service and nation building. It is a youth initiative started by eminent educationist & young motivator, Dr. Amit Kansal to educate, nurture and organize the young change makers to solve various societal challenges in 2008.
Nirman believes on the concept-Nation First (Rashtar Saravpratham). It is committed to provide need based & skill oriented education to all and empower the rural youth to make them capable for self-employment as well as to take up social challenges. It aims to provide guidance, expertise and an environment to teach & self-learning
Indian society has problems like poverty, unemployment, lack of quality education, food and water scarcity, environmental pollution, corruption, drug-addiction & female feoticide etc. which are waiting to be solved. On the other hand, there are many youth who are in pursuit of a more meaningful life, something beyond just earning money. Nirman attempts to create a bridge between these two things so as to fulfill both the needs.
Nirman started its journey by organizing the youth & awareness campaigns against various social evils like corruption, drug addiction and illiteracy. It launched its maiden campaign to aware the common man regarding the Right to Information Act (RTI ACT) passed by Parliament in 2005. Nirman opened RTI Cell at its office to assist and guide the people regarding the RTI Act. Door -to- Door contact was established and a series of public seminars and meetings was organized to spread awareness regarding the Act in Sunam city and the villages of the area.
The journey of Nirman continued with other Public Awareness Campaigns against drug addiction & illiteracy-Say -'No' to Drugs & 'Yes' to Education. Distribution of Literature in Youth Awareness Camps against the evil of drug addiction forms a prominent part of this movement. Besides it, free coaching classes for competitive exams & Computer education along with value based education to poor & deserving students is being provided by 'Team Nirman' having eminent educationists for ten years. Nirman has also helped a number of persons who were willing to be de-addicted. It has established a permanent cell for Career Counseling and Guidance, the RTI Act Unit and a small library having a good number of books for competitive exams at its registered office.
Higher levels of education and literacy lead to a greater awareness and also contributes in improvement of economic and social conditions. It acts as a catalyst for social upliftment enhancing the returns on investment made in almost every aspect of development effort, be it population control, health, hygiene, environmental degradation control, employment of weaker sections of the society.
Nirman found that there are a large number of drop outs especially in rural areas of Punjab after 8th, 10th or 10+2 only due to the non-availability of Higher Education Institutions at their door steps. Mostly in the rural districts like Sangrur & Mansa higher education enrollments are abysmally low. The higher education provided by the private higher education institutions, some of them which are situated in rural areas, is costly due to their heavy investments on development of Infrastructure and other facilities provided by such institutions while there are a few which are mostly in the urban areas. It is also a fact that a majority of government run Higher Educational Institutions/Colleges are located in urban areas, providing educational facilities to urban students and rural pupils have limited opportunities for higher education. This in turn is depriving rural students of opportunities to compete with urban pupils both in further educational avenues and in the job market.
Nirman during its various campaigns also observed that conservative cultural attitudes prevents and many girls from attending Colleges/Universities for getting higher education. The education of women in India plays a significant role in improving livings standards in the country. Women's lower educational level is also shown to adversely affect the health and living conditions of children. Many surveys that were conducted in India showed results which support the fact that infant mortality rate was inversely related to female literacy rate and educational level.
Now, What is the immediate solution to this problem? To answer this problem, Nirman initiated its next mission-'Now, Education at Your Doorsteps & Eak Kadam Siksha Ki Aur' to provide Higher Education on a large scale. Nirman has the view that not only the Primary Education but also the Higher Education facilities must reach to the door steps of economically weak & people of every age group who desires to have it as quickly as possible if the people cannot make access to Higher Education. Nirman's Programme 'Now, Education at Your Doorsteps' gives dropout students, especially girls and other people from villages and small towns, a chance to complete their education and acquire skills for employment.
Distance learning is a prominent feature of the Indian higher education system. At higher education level, IGNOU, the largest University of the world established by Government of India, is an apex body and the most credible name that co-ordinates distance learning in India. Nirman approached IGNOU to make an immediate way for its mission in hand. IGNOU notified to establish IGNOU Special Study Center-2281D at Nirman Campus of Education, Research &Training(NCERT), Sunam. Major objectives of this Centre is to provide opportunities for higher education to those who, especially the rural and girl students, are not able to draw benefits from formal system of education. The Open Learning System allows a learner to determine his pace of learning and provides education at the doorstep of the learner. The mode of transaction is through self-learning printed study material, supplemented by audio and video programmes. It has further scope of students accessing material through internet and various other media. Team Nirman, under the vision and guidance of its Founder & CEO, Dr. Amit Kansal, is organizing on the spot admission camps in villages and motivating the public to actively participate in the various social campaigns launched by the Government.
Nirman's ETech Foundation is started to achieve e-education for all. The ETech works to facilitate the adoption of Information Technology (IT) in education and boost digital literacy to bridge the digital divide in the area and to aid inclusive growth.
Nirman feels proud in associating its programmes with Betti Bachao-Betti Pudhao, Swachh Bharat-Sikshat Bharat & Skill Development Programme launched by Govternment of India under the dynamic guidance of Hon'ble Prime minister of India Sh.Narinder Bhai Modi.
Nirman's next project is to start need based Vocational Training Programmes & 'Foundation Course for Employability' to give unemployed and underemployed youth an opportunity to gain employment. The Government of India is taking many positive steps to turn the education vocational and job oriented. Moreover, government is taking lots of steps to promote small vocational institutes which provide job oriented courses like aviation related, hospitality, sales & marketing or travel & tourism related courses to name few examples.
'Team Nirman' is considerably working hard on its forthcoming projects mainly focused on the capacity building and increasing the employability of the rural youth of Punjab. Nirman Campus of Education, Research & Trailing (NCERT) is under development at Jakhepal-Ghasiwala Road, Sunam. For the timing, all the activities are being run from Nirman's Registered Head Quarters situated at Peer Bana Banoi Road, Sunam. Nirman feels indebted to all its associated team members who include educationists, scholars, doctors and other prominent figures in the public life to guide Nirman and promote this noble cause.
